Never ride without a helmet (by Eugen Suman)

I know it sounds lame, riding a bike with your helmet on, in the city, but trust me, you don't wanna get in an accident. The way people drive their cars, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I have actually never even owned a helmet. Have them for the kids but I have never worn one. Been hit twice by cars on my bike, one was a pretty good one when I was younger. I bounced off the hood and smashed the ladies windshield. Ended up at the hospital to get blacktop scraped out of my arms.

If I rode in the city I'd get a helmet. But I'm right on the edge of a lake in a town where you can see cars coming from a mile away.

Probably still a better idea to wear a helmet, but, oh well. I'm a slow learner.

This is one of those "safety" versus "looking like a tard" issues. If you're decked out in biking gear, a helmet looks cool; but if you're wearing a suit or your Wendy's outfit, you just look silly. Sad, but true.

I had a friend who lost his life because he wasn't wearing a helmet. It was hard to watch his families reaction when the doctor said that if he had been wearing one he would have been ok.

Riding without a helmet may sound lame but with all these accidents with bikers, you shouldn't want to do anything but bike with a helmet. I would rather look silly than to have a head injury that could kill me.

When I was growing up, no one ever rode with a helmet.. Now in 20/20 hindsite that was just plain stupid! Everyone should have a helmet when they ride!

I definitely struggle with the 'looking like a retard' issue. I know I should wear one, but I can vividly imagine all the snickering as I pass through the neighborhood park...
