Buttermilk:
We chose to start with Buttermilk because of its low difficulty. It is one of those mountains where it is easy to know all the runs. In my opinion this makes for a get place to really hone my skills while easing into my season. If you do ski Buttermilk I would suggest parking oat the Tiehack lift, take Tiehack road and stay left till you see the lot at the base of the lift. If that lots fills up there is another smaller but hidden lot you can hit. Just make sure you already have your lift ticket before you get there. The lot at the main entrance is good if you get there early but it can fill up quick, particularly because the parking at highlands is tight and cost money before noon so people take the shuttle form Buttermilk to Highlands. Anyway, we caught Buttermilk on a good day. It snowed HARD the day before so there was lots of newly corduroyed runs on good snow. The sky was clear and blue. Great day to ski.
Snowmass:
It snowed hard again last night and continued through the day. This made conditions less than ideal for a day of boarding at such a great mountain. The light was very flat and the powder choppy. This was just to much for me to really enjoy. I am okay with low light and I am okay with powder, but together is was just draining. My knees just bouncing and my feet went numb. We were going to ski Long Shot, my favorite all time run but we did not want to hike the hill just to find that it too was choppy powder. I will have to make time at the end of the tour to come back. Snowmass is a great mountain because skiers and boarders of all skill levels have something to do. Me, I love hauling down those rollers and launching. It also looked like to beefed up there various terrain parks which is good to see. Here is a parking tip for Snowmass, which is particularly important because the new deck is not completed yet. Park in lot C. It costs 13 if you get there before noon. However, if you have 4 or more people in the car parking is free. So here is the tip if you have less than four and some room in your car. Just swing by the free lot, way at the entrance after the roundabout, and pick up some skiers or boarders waiting for the bus. This is a win win because you get free parking and they get to rider up to the slop on a heated car verse waiting for a bus in the cold. Just my suggestion.
Aspen Highlands:
Snow was pounding again today, though the light was much better today till about 3pm. Anyway, I know why Highlands is a locals favorite. It offers a wide range of challenging runs, trees and bowls. I would not suggest it for novice riders because despite some easier runs mid mountain it is easy to find your self on an expert run. Even the very bottom can be tricky for novices. But for the advanced skiers there is a lot of steeps and trees. One warning though, know where the catwalks are because if you are not paying attention and on a snowboard you will be clipping out. This is a mountain where you can very every run for weeks probably. There are tons of variations and crossovers possible. But for me the best aspect of the mountain is there are several runs that are long steep and wide so I can just let it rip with out too much worry of other riders and skiers. As for parking tips, get to the deck/lot before 10am on the weekends or you may not get a sport. Parking was 12 or 13 dollars unless you had 4 or more people. So if you are short, pick up one or two people on the way in. Again, win win but you some judgment. For example no one with a chainsaw! We did not get any time in the bowls today but everyone knows they are awesome. So make sure to leave time in your day to hit them. I wish I had of.
Relocating base Camp The Move from Aspen To Keystone

The relocation from Aspen to Keystone was tiring and stressful. We had planned to move camp Monday morning but some heavy,1 foot plus, mountain top but the brakes on that. By Sunday night we knew we had no chance for a early leave. In fact we did not think we would get out at all. Then we saw a break in the weather coming and scrambled to get the house clean and the car packed. Cleaning took us 6 hours. My sister lets us stay at her place in exchange for leaving it immaculate. Well after a 2 plus weeks and a total of 6 guest during our promotion we had some work ahead of us. It was dark by the time we left, and it had started snowing again which resulted in us going into the ditch a few times. Down a single lane unpaved road with a foot of snow. Mesa road, for those who are familiar with Snowmass. Then bam it snowed most of our drive to keystone. It was super sketchy at best with an average speed of 40 mph. Every time a 18 wheeler went by it was like days of thunder driving through the smoke. It was two handed driving the whole way. We finally hit the Arapahoe Inn in Keystone with 5 minutes till the office closed. The whole ordeal was sketchy.

Breckenridge

I really liked this mountain. Despite the bitter cold had to have been -20 today with the wind chill. At one point I actually thought about jumping off the lift just to escape the wicked Gale force wind that started blowing mid afternoon. I could not feel the entire right side of my face. Anyway, it had a lot of the features I really like. It is very diverse. The mountain is a representation of skill level. The higher you go the better the riders. Bowls, shoots, and the Windows and the top. Some moguls and trees in the mid section and some easy blues towards the bottom. We got there a little late so some of the good stuff had already been skied out. I really liked the runs I was able to put together with some local friends. It flowed really well for me. I loved the little tree patches that had natural kickers at the end. Good stuff. This is a mountain you really need a week plus to enjoy. We did not get into the parks or pipes but are hoping to get back over there before we move camp again.
KEYSTON
Keystone mountain is a more humble mountain compared to some of the other CO resorts, in my opinion. It seemed to have lots of easy to intermediate runs with some harder stuff in the bowl and trees. The exception to this is the terrain park A51. It is sick. it is broken out into several runs for various skill levels, but it has some touch stuff and big stuff. If you go to Keystone you have to hit the A51 terrain park. Check out the photos.
